27th Pippi's Festival
In only one week, more than 100,000 visitors visit this biggest family festival in Slovenia every year. The festival, which boasts an admirable 27-year long tradition, is an unforgettable experience for each visitor. Pippi's world lets the youngest ones broaden their imaginative adventures while also awakening the inner child in adults. The first and practically only rule at the festival is that we must all have fun. Pippi’s festival is an event which provides cultural education, learning opportunities, and entertainment for all generations; it is by far the most recognizable brand in the domain of children’s events.
Pippi invites you to visit her between 18th and 24th September, 2016, in Velenje at TRC Jezero. You will meet her in her favorite places: Čira-Čara Villa, Pippitown, art districts, at the super-chefs’ who will be baking famous Funcakes, on one of the many festival stages, or she might be hiding in the Pirate Shipyard next to the Lake Velenje. Pippi will also pay many visits to the town center of Velenje, where there will be theatrical and dance shows, as well as numerous exhibitions.
Velenje is a home to Pippi’s Festival, which in its 26-year-long tradition has transformed from a one-day event into the biggest children’s festival in Slovenia. That’s where, in 1990, the Intermunicipal Association of Friends of Youth Velenje and Ivan Napotnik Cultural Center prepared for the first time a highly interesting, creative, and lively day for children, naming it after the beloved literary character. Soon the event started growing, some new contents were added to the program, and many partners joined the project. The event eventually evolved into a one-week festival preceded by numerous pre-festival events held in different locations in Velenje and its neighboring areas. Since the festival’s popularity has spread outside the state borders, many foreign guests have decided to take part in it, while the number of foreign visitors has also been increasing with each passing year. Festival has maintained its initial mission and has been dedicated to children and their parents ever since, abounding with events which present and encourage children’s creativity and imagination, offer plenty of educational content, strengthen children’s empathy towards their fellow humans and humanity, weave numerous threads of friendship - even across the borders, teach the young to show patience and accept differences and strengthen the bond between generations.
